Traditions

St. Martin of Tours School is rich in traditions that build community and preserve our values and Catholic heritage.

Fall Carnival:  Held on one Saturday each November, the school community and our neighbors and friends come together to enjoy a traditional school carnival.  Overnight, the school playground is transformed with game booths and rides.  There is plenty of good food to be had.  Families contribute home-baked goodies to our sweets booth and old-fashioned Cakewalk.  There is always plenty to do from face painting to riding the giant ferris wheel.

School Faith Families:  Each school faith family is comprised of at least one student from each grade level. Eighth graders serve as heads of family and faculty moderate family activities. Families gather on First Friday’s before Mass throughout the school year for a community building activity and attend Mass together as a family. The highlight of the Faith Family program is Faith Family Day celebrated during Catholic Schools Week. During this celebration, each family participates in friendly competitions, and learning and team building activities.

Sports Day: One highlight of each school year is theannual Sports Day, where the entire student body participates in a fun-filled day of sporting events in a neighboring park. Parent volunteers staff the event and help ensure that everyone goes home a winner.

SMT Family Ski Trip: In February, SMT Families hit the slopes.  In the tradition of bringing families together outside of school, SMT enjoys an annual trip to Mammoth to enjoy snowboarding, skiing, a warm fireplace, and lots of hot chocolate.

SMT Family Campout:  Each year in May, SMT families head for El Capitan for a very special weekend of fun, family, nature, games, and socializing in a beautiful setting just North of Santa Barbara.  SMT has the entire campground for this unique getaway with family and friends.

14 Tradition 1Grandparents and Special Friends Day: Every spring, we invite grandparents and special friends to join us for Mass and special activities.  The day provides an opportunity to experience school through the eyes of our students.  Guests join students in classes and share a special lunch with their child.

Trunk or Treat: Brings Halloween to our SMT campus.  Children go from car to car receiving treats in the safety of our very own school yard. This event brings our community members and their decked out, Halloween themed cars together for a fun and safe night of trunk or treating.

Father / Daughter Dance:  Dads are invited to escort their princesses for a fun evening of music, dancing, and refreshments. Souvenir photos are included in the evening’s festivities.

Christmas Program: Each year, students, parents, grandparents, alumni, and friends join us for a festive musical program celebrating the Christmas season around the world.  Click here to listen to our school’s unofficial alma mater – Great Day in Bethlehem.
