St. Martin Tours School…whether we are alumni, students, family, faculty, or friends, thinking of SMT brings many joyful memories of this very special place to our minds and hearts. For an ever growing body of alumni and friends our memories carry us back to a time when we were actively engaged in the life of the school: cheering on Sports Day teams, singing in the Christmas program, or participating in the school’s traditions of academic excellence. Some have kept their ties to the school and parish over the years, worshipping here, and passing on the legacy of a St. Martin’s education from generation to generation. These great memories tie us together in spirit with today’s students, staff, and families who continue those great traditions of spiritual, academic, athletic, and dramatic excellence that make this community truly unique. What we share across the generations, binds us together as a community sharing a common vision and purpose.
In celebration of our rich history, we had a number of celebrations this school year. On February 13, 2015, Archbishop Jose Gomez celebrated Mass for our student body in honor or our school’s founding. Students performed a special play for the Archbishop on the life of St. Martin of Tours. Students also presented the Archbishop with handmade note cards that reflected this year’s theme BeAttitude Wise. Each card was decorated with a representation of one of the beatitudes. On April 18, the student body and faculty celebrated our school’s founding in 1954-55 with a 50’s styled extravaganza. We were treated to a musical performance by the Doo-wop acapella group, Alley Cats followed by an all-american burger feast with authentic 50’s candy. Finally, the day ended with an Ed Sullivan styled variety show featuring our very own SMT students and faculty. One of the highlights of the day was a fashion show through the decades. On Sunday April 19, the entire school community including alumni, alumni families, former administrators, and teachers attended a Mass and reception in the Parish Center in honor of our 60th anniversary.
