Technology and STEAM Education

At SMT, technology is used as a powerful tool to enhance student achievement and engagement. Classrooms are equipped with interactive whiteboards and a dedicated iPad cart.  The science curriculum utilizes Lego robotics,  probeware, and a Rokenbok mobile STEAM lab in inquiry-based classes.  A new, state-of-the-art keyboard lab enhances music instruction.  In addition, the school’s fully equipped computer lab with its 35 iMac computers allows teachers to give direct instruction in skills such as coding and to use the lab in other curriculum areas.

One of SMT’s goals is to prepare the next generation to contribute in all areas of the technological workforce as educators, scientists, mathematicians, and engineers.  Logic and critical thinking skills are incorporated into daily instruction, and student exploration is encouraged in both lab classes and our middle school science fair program.  SMT students have boasted a superb record of achievement at both the county and state level, winning once at the national level, seventeen times at the state level, and seventy-three times at the county level in recent years.
