Along with students from thousands of schools through the United States, SMT students participate annually in the National Geographic Bee. Designed to spark student interest in the subject and increase public awareness, the Bee begins in the classroom of fifth- through eighth-graders. The winner of the school-wide Bee advances to a written examination to determine state competitors, and last year’s school winner advanced to this prestigious level. State winners compete in a national championship in Washington, D.C.
